What does Emmanuel mean?
At the very heart of the Nativity season is the birth of Jesus. What makes this season so joyous is that God entered into the human condition through the life and person of Jesus as the Christ, the anointed one of God. Matthew’s gospel narrative relates how the birth of Jesus that was foretold by the prophet Isaiah: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call him Emmanuel,” which means ‘God with us.’ Emmanuel Church is appropriately named because God is with us in our life together. What we give back is our gift to God.
At Emmanuel Church we are fortunate in having a very committed congregation dedicated to seeing our life together not just survive, but thrive as a vibrant and viable parish church. There has been good work done in the past and there is much more to be accomplished in the future. We want to expand not only the membership by reaching out to the neighborhood, but expand the meaning of belonging to Christ in our own personal lives.
